What are the chances that the game from Arrowhead Game Studios (which can impress its audience with an otherwise useless World War I weapon; we wrote about it recently) will be released on more than just Sony’s console?
Rumors have been circulating for months that Helldivers 2 will finally make its way to the Xbox Series after PlayStation 5 and PC. This was confirmed by XboxEra host Nick Baker (aka Shpeshal Nick) back in April. More than half a year ago, he said that according to his sources, talks between PlayStation and Xbox about a possible port had already started, albeit very tentatively. Jim Ryan, former CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, was reluctant to talk about a collaboration, but his successor, Totoki Hiroki, is more open to the idea.
However, the talks seem to have gone nowhere, as Baker recently said that an Xbox Series port of Helldivers 2 is “not happening”. This does not mean that Baker’s sources were wrong. In February, Xbox boss Phil Spencer told Game File that he wasn’t sure who in the gaming industry would be helped by Helldivers 2 not being on Xbox (the answer: Sony…), so he would have been willing to port it, and it wouldn’t have been up to him. After all, he also made Final Fantasy XIV come to Xbox. (Final Fantasy XVI wouldn’t have been up to its producer either; that was in the news today).
Yeah. We know.

Compared to Sony, Microsoft is much more inclined to take their games elsewhere. In Sony’s case (if you take PC out of the equation), they only have MLB: The Show, their annual baseball game, on Xbox. LEGO Horizon Adventures is coming to Nintendo Switch, but not Xbox (and the reasoning was a bit ridiculous…). Sony, on the other hand, has Hi-Fi Rush, Sea of Thieves, Pentiment and Grounded on its console from Microsoft, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is on its way…
So Sony is sticking to its guns…
