The Running Man Remake: First Photos Arrive of Glen Powell’s Character on the Set!

MOVIE NEWS – Glen Powell looks very retro in first set photos of The Running Man…

Glen Powell, a star of Top Gun: Maverick and Twisters, has made a name for himself in recent years as a kind of unique, ever-moving Hollywood megastar. It seems that he will continue this streak in his latest Edgar Wright project, the remake of the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger film The Running Man, which began filming in London this week.

In new photos from the Daily Mail, Powell looks retro-futuristic as he walks through London among crowds of extras in front of the iconic Battersea Power Station.

What is Edgar Wright and Glen Powell’s film The Running Man about?

The Running Man is based on the novel of the same name, which Stephen King wrote under the pseudonym Richard Bachman in 1982. The novel was previously adapted by director Paul Michael Glaser with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead role, but the original film was a very loose adaptation that took place in 2017.

However, Wright has stated that his version – co-written with Michael Bacall – will be closer to the novel, meaning it will likely be set in 2025. The story is set in a dystopian United States that has been economically bankrupted and in ruins (due to increasing violence worldwide). The plot follows a man named Ben Richards who decides to participate in the eponymous reality show, where contestants win money by avoiding a team of professional assassins sent to kill them.

As if Powell wasn’t already busy enough, it seems that he’s also finishing his studies while filming The Running Man.

Speaking to IndieWire, the actor revealed that he’s currently working on the London production and the University of Texas to complete his degree in Spanish and early American history.

The new photos show the iconic Battersea Power Station in London, bustling with extras in militaristic, police-style gear and ’80s-inspired retro outfits. Vintage cars from the era are parked outside the building, drawing awe from passersby. Elsewhere on set, Wright and Powell can be seen laughing with the cast between takes.

Now that filming has begun, we’re sure to see more photos of Wright and Powell, and we’re excited to see what else Wright and Powell have in store for us. Other actors confirmed to be in the film include Lee Pace, Josh Brolin, William H. Macy, Michael Cera, and Emilia Jones.
