This Classic Larian RPG Gets a New Release – On Current-Gen Consoles?!

PEGI has listed the Larian game Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition for Xbox Series X/S and PS5…

Larian Studios may have earned its place among the most respected studios after Baldur’s Gate 3, but the Belgian team has been proving its worth years earlier with the Divinity: Original Sin saga. The fantasy franchise based on Larian’s original 2002 Divine Divinity was one of the best games of the past decade, and the European team doesn’t plan on forgetting it so quickly: PEGI has now listed Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition for the current console generation.

Divinity: Original Sin 2, Larian Studios’ critically acclaimed RPG, has been a hit with fans of the genre since its release in 2017. Set in the world of Rivellon, the game was a good RPG that allowed players to immerse themselves in a fantasy story where their choices directly influenced their progression, and where the highly strategic, turn-based combat system became the modern standard. In fact, it boasts a 95 percent positive review rating on Steam, which is only two percent less than Baldur’s Gate 3.

After its 2017 release, the Definitive Edition was released for the previous console generation, but its further development was put on hold, likely due to the demands of BG3’s early access release in 2020. So, if true, this news is more than welcome.

As mentioned, Pan European Game Information (PEGI), the European video game rating system, listed the Xbox Series X/S and PS5 versions of Original Sin II early yesterday morning.

It is not yet known what improvements the game may contain. It wouldn’t be surprising, however, if Larian Studios’ experience with Baldur’s Gate 3 on the current console generation were to guide the new edition of the RPG. It’s easy to assume that we’ll see visual refinements, reduced loading times, and perhaps full mod support now that BG3’s modding tool has been such a success. For now, though, all we can do is wait and see.

Larian boss Swen Vincke still has his heart set on Divinity: Original Sin

Unsurprisingly, a new version of Divinity: Original Sin 2 is on the way, following registration with the European rating service, as the saga holds a special place in Swen Vincke’s heart. The Baldur’s Gate 3 director believes that Divinity: Original Sin was the “high point” of his career. This RPG allowed Larian Studios to focus on their true aspirations and get the creative freedom they really wanted.
