It’s a game unlike any other, but Death Stranding’s incredible numbers prove that Hideo Kojima’s name attracts millions of players. The Japanese creative has revealed that more than 19 million users have played the adventure of Sam Porter Bridges.

Today marks five years since the release of Death Stranding. Since then, countless players have stepped into the shoes of Sam Porter Bridges, tasked with rebuilding a fictional version of the U.S. imagined by Kojima Productions. The title has sparked conversations across social media and gaming forums; its mechanics, revolving around the unique challenge of walking and balancing cargo, stand apart from other major releases. It seems the community was eager to experience Kojima’s latest masterpiece, as the creative has confirmed that over 19 million users have joined the journey.

“Hi everyone! This is Hideo Kojima. Today, November 8th, marks the 5th anniversary of Death Stranding. Thank you so much!” he shares in a video posted on his X account. “We’ve expanded to multiple platforms, and currently the number of deliverers has surpassed 19 million worldwide, for which I’m very grateful. It’s been 5 years since launch, and 3 years since the Director’s Cut, I believe. Many of you are still playing the game.”

“Right now, we’re working on Death Stranding 2. As I’ve mentioned on my social media, we’re now in the most critical phase of building the game,” Kojima continues. “I have good vibes about it right now and I’m sure it will be a great project. We haven’t announced a release date yet, but please look forward to it!” According to current plans, Kojima Productions aims to release Death Stranding 2: On the Beach in 2025.
