We Know When Season 2 of The Last of Us Is Coming (Roughly)!

MOVIE NEWS – HBO will present the 2nd season of The Last of Us in the spring of 2025, but we can define it more precisely than that…

It’s been quite a few months since HBO’s The Last of Us series came to an end. Not long after, we got official confirmation of the second season, which would adapt some of the events of The Last of Us: Part II. Although we are still waiting for more details, clips, trailers or pictures, there is already good news! Because HBO recently revealed the approximate premiere date of the post-apocalyptic drama.

HBO confirmed at its presentation, as reported by IGN, that TLoU season 2 will premiere in the spring of 2025. Previously, all we knew was that it would arrive sometime next year. What’s more, there is some information that may further narrow down the release date.

There are rumours on social media (via Joanastic ) that the show will premiere between March 21 and April 20 in order to compete at the Emmys.

Turns out the deadline for Emmy nominations is May 31. Given that TLoU Season 2 will be shorter, with 7 episodes, the deadline should be April 20 for weekly episodes. So, it is very likely that we will see the first episode between the end of March and April. It makes perfect sense for an HBO series like TLoU to adjust its dates to fall within the Emmy nomination window, as these awards allow a show to solidify its reputation as well as increase its ratings.

Will there be more seasons of The Last of Us?

The answer is yes. Already in August 2023, we learned how many seasons TLoU could get. The creator and showrunner of the series said that “what I can certainly confirm is that that story [of Part II] does not fit into one season.”. Craig Mazin believes “it’s almost certain that as long as people keep watching and we can keep watching TV, the third season will be significantly bigger.” Moreover, he notes that “the story may need a fourth season.”
