They have an unannounced small town invasion game in the works, with RPG elements, crafting, and city building in the gameplay.
In 2021, seven developers saw an industry willing to take risks on huge budgets and recycled mechanics, but unwilling to take risks on new gameplay and experiences for players. Committed to creating the kind of multiplayer games they were looking for, Ruckus Games was born. Led by CEO and Game Director Paul Sage (former Creative Director of Borderlands 3 and The Elder Scrolls Online), Ruckus Games’ talented roster of developers are collectively known for their key roles in some of the industry’s most popular game franchises. Hailing from studio giants such as Gearbox Software, Riot Games, Blizzard Entertainment, Epic Games, Monolith Productions, and more, each founding member of Ruckus Games brings the essential ingredients needed to create the perfect multiplayer stew.
Ruckus Games already stands out from the competition, having recently secured $19 million in funding to bring its vision to life. Notably, investors were sold on Ruckus’ first project after playing just 20 minutes of their Vertical Slice demo – an impressive feat for a prototype created by just 14 people over 12 months! This new title will feature cooperative play for up to four players in an evolving world that will be updated with new emergent content over time. Set against the backdrop of the American heartland, players will step into the shoes of everyday people who are forced to become heroes when the city comes under attack. It’s not clear what’s behind the strange events, and things just don’t seem to add up.
With a large roster of playable characters and thousands of unique makeshift weapon combinations – like a toaster modified to shoot saw blades or a modified power washer turned into a flamethrower – players will “Smash, Grab, and Grow” as they make their way through exciting suburban invasion scenarios. Take to the streets, destroy whatever you want, find cool new weapons and resources, and rescue NPCs to bring back to your Hometown, a vibrant central hub. Here, you can customize, build, and upgrade over time to enhance your weapons and skills and go out even stronger for another round of chaotic fun.
The already compelling and addictive gameplay is enhanced by a unique visual style led by Art Director Scott Kester, the visionary who played a key role in transforming Borderlands’ gritty pre-release aesthetic into the iconic, colorful graphic novel style that has come to define the series. The striking art style of this new title belies some darker moments as you are drawn into a deep world that balances fun and humor with darkness and danger, built around unlikely heroes who use everything at their disposal to overcome an onslaught of overwhelming forces.
Ruckus Games’ currently unannounced debut title is a showcase for their mission to be a disruptor in the industry, utilizing a community-centric development process that focuses on getting direct feedback from players from the very beginning. Working alongside the developers, Ruckus Games is committed to the motto “The Player is Our Hero” and invites interested players to get early hands-on experience with the game throughout the development process. Players are encouraged to sign up on the Ruckus Games website (https://www.ruckus-games.com/) for playtest updates and invitations.
So a very strong start from the studio!
