Ubisoft’s Moves Raise Questions – What’s Really Happening Behind the Scenes?

Ubisoft has addressed the latest rumors surrounding Assassin’s Creed and its upcoming Animus Hub, firmly denying claims about paid content. The company clarified that all rewards on the platform will be completely free.

Ubisoft is navigating one of the most critical moments in its history. The situation is so precarious that the French developer sees Assassin’s Creed Shadows as its last “chance” to change the “narrative” about the quality of its games. This launch will be accompanied by Animus Hub (previously known as Assassin’s Creed: Infinity), a platform designed to host all titles in the franchise. Over the past few days, rumors about the platform’s operation and features have circulated widely. However, Ubisoft has now stepped in to officially set the record straight.

Rumors suggested that Animus Hub would include battle passes, cosmetic extras, and other in-game features. Addressing the wave of speculation, Ubisoft’s community manager Ubi_Waldo clarified on the official Assassin’s Creed subreddit (via Insider Gaming) how additional content will be handled on Animus Hub. *“It has come to our attention that inaccurate rumors have been circulating online regarding the upcoming Animus Hub (formerly codenamed Infinity). We wanted to take this opportunity to clarify that:

  • All rewards available in the Animus Hub will be completely free.
  • There are no paid subscriptions or paid battle passes in the Animus Hub.
  • Players will have access to regular content and missions at no extra cost.”*

Furthermore, Ubisoft’s community manager promised that the team would share more details about the Assassin’s Creed initiative as the project’s launch approaches. Animus Hub will debut alongside Assassin’s Creed Shadows in February 2025, so it’s likely that more information will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Ubisoft Sale Rumors Confirmed

Amidst the speculation, there is one rumor that turned out to be true: Ubisoft’s possible acquisition by Tencent and the Guillemot family. The company’s situation remains critical, and its leadership is carefully evaluating all options. Should this move materialize, the relevant parties will provide more details “when appropriate.”
