Hitman World of Assassination: Agent 47 Won’t Be on the PlayStation VR2 This Year!

The bald assassin needs a little more time to complete his mission on Sony’s next-generation headset…

IO Interactive has explained on its website how and why the PlayStation VR2 port, which offers a full experience, has been delayed: “We would like to address the change in release date. Originally scheduled for December 2024, the release of Hitman World of Assassination on PlayStation VR2 has been moved to March 27, 2025. The decision to move the release date was not taken lightly; we know there has been a huge demand to bring Hitman to PlayStation VR2, and we were thrilled to see the great reception following the announcement.

As such, our priority will always be to deliver an amazing experience that meets the high standards our players have come to expect. The additional time will not only allow our team to polish the game to ensure that every aspect is refined, immersive and seamless, but also to add a few extras that we really wanted to include in this PlayStation VR2 version, such as active reloading,” the Danish studio wrote.

The entire main campaign of Hitman World of Assassination will be playable on PlayStation VR2, giving you the freedom to explore 20 unique locations, each with its own living and breathing world. From the glamorous runways of a fashion show in Paris, to the dizzying heights of Dubai’s skyscrapers, to the roaring crowds of a high-speed race in Miami, you will travel around the world to find your next target. Careful consideration will be required to evaluate every available option to complete your mission, and with over 100 weapons and items at your disposal, you can replay each location as many times as you want to complete your objectives in as many ways as you like.

Dual wielding and full ambidexterity were two of the most requested features to be brought to virtual reality in Hitman World of Assassination, and the developers are pleased to announce that they will be available on PlayStation VR2. You will now be able to perform multiple tasks at the same time, whether it be picking up an item vital to your mission while holding a weapon to take out a pesky guard, or simply equipping two Silverballers for greater efficiency. Active reloading now allows you to manually eject ammunition, grab a new clip, and insert it back into your weapon, giving you full control of your gear. Depending on the situation, you can also holster your weapons on your body, allowing you to quickly hide or pull out your weapon for added immersion. Finally, the sniper scope is now fully usable, giving you the opportunity to show off your marksmanship skills.

The PlayStation VR2 version of Hitman World of Assassination also introduces positional interactions that change the way players engage with the game world. Instead of simply pressing a button to trigger events, players must physically mimic actions such as turning a TV on or off by touching the screen, hacking CCTV footage by tapping a keyboard, or poisoning a glass by holding and dropping a vial. This feature extends to opening doors, creating a smoother and more natural interaction. In addition, quest items now remain physical and can be inspected in the hand, allowing players to use them directly in scenes, such as swiping a key card or turning a lock on a door. The game also introduces a more physics-based approach to disguise stealing, allowing players to use positional control, grabbing and momentum to steal an outfit, greatly enhancing the immersion and realism of the gameplay.

Hitman World of Assassination is coming to PlayStation VR2 on March 27th.
