The Game Awards 2024: List of Nominees Announced, Including One Controversial Title

As expected, Geoff Keighley has revealed the nominees for The Game Awards 2024.

Geoff Keighley has revealed the games that will be nominated for The Game Awards 2024. The Game Awards has become one of the biggest events in the industry, with the 2024 iteration taking place on Thursday, December 12th. (That’s the morning of December 13th in our country.) The event will honour the best games coming out in 2024 (among other things) while also featuring some huge world premiere announcements.

While many people are looking forward to The Game Awards for the world premieres, others are watching to see which games win what awards.

The coveted Game of the Year award is always the most hotly contested, and 2024 will be no different. This year, six games were nominated for Game of the Year, and it will be very interesting to see which one ends up taking home the crown.

The Game Awards 2024 Game of the Year nominees are Astro Bot, Balatro, Black Myth: Wukong, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Metaphor: ReFantazio. Shadow of the Erdtree’s inclusion has been controversial, as it’s an expansion and not a brand-new game, and it’s safe to assume that it will be even more controversial if it does win the award. Others were surprised by the nominations for Balatro and Metaphor: ReFantazio.

The Game Awards nominations closed in early November, which means that some major games were not eligible for the award this year. These include upcoming titles like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, STALKER 2, and Marvel Rivals. However, these games could be in the running for next year’s awards.

What do you think will win this year’s award? Is there a game you’d like to see among the nominees?
