It looks like Saber Interactive will ban Space Marine 2 online mods in December, but in exchange, we’ll get better mod support in the future…
Millions of players have already played Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, Saber Interactive’s sci-fi PVE shooter. Although a lot of planned SM2 content is still waiting for you, part of the PC community is boosting the title with mods.
However, the creators of the game made a radical decision: they announced that they would remove online mods with the upcoming December update – this was announced via Steam. The alleged reason for this is that they cause several problems for players. At the same time, the studio intends to create support in the future so that there are not so many errors in the game.
No more online mods in Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2
The Nexus Mods database has everything from weapons to cosmetics, but the truth is that starting next month, we won’t be able to use them in online matches. “Our data shows that a non-negligible amount of recent server stability issues are related to mods, and that instability impacts even those users who don’t have mods installed,” explains game director Dmitry Grigorenko (in PC Gamer).
“We have also received user reports that their save files were corrupted after playing alongside players with mods.”
“We will continue to provide all necessary server infrastructure so you can play online with your friends with mods. Once we add custom Eternal War lobbies, mods will work for them as well,” he added. Looks like we’ll have to wait a few more weeks for that, but at least Saber Interactive is committed.
They will provide “an easy entry point to our backend for games with mods installed, so modders won’t have to spend time hacking the game executable after each patch. We will be releasing some of our tools to modders so they can develop mods with greater ease,” he wrote, although no details were provided,” he concludes. On the mods aside, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 has reduced its much-criticised difficulty after some players complained about it. Last but not least, the game’s creators detailed the content of the second season and beyond weeks ago.
