MOVIE NEWS – “I think that gave us a creative freedom that we wouldn’t have had if we were trying to coordinate two very different creative processes to coincide at the same time,” says Phil Spencer. Believe it or not, not releasing a Fallout game alongside the series was a decision that granted “creative freedom.”
Fallout is one of the most iconic series in the gaming world. With its unique blend of post-apocalyptic storytelling, open-world exploration, and RPG mechanics, Bethesda’s franchise holds great promise. Fans are excited not only for the Prime Video series but also for the upcoming Fallout games. As of now, Fallout 76 continues to receive updates, while Fallout 5 remains a distant goal.
If you thought the Prime Video series would launch alongside a new Fallout game, think again. Xbox boss Phil Spencer explained in an Inverse interview that while coordinating a game release with the series would have been complex, this decision ended up being advantageous. Nolan and Todd Howard had more creative freedom without the constraints of game development.
“We didn’t have a brand new game lined up for release. I actually think that gave us some creative freedom that we wouldn’t have had if we were trying to coordinate the production of two very different creative processes to land at the same time.” Spencer added that Fallout 76 and Fallout Shelter provided fans with enjoyable content while watching the series’ episodes. “The strategy is much more long-term than trying to push for a few impulse purchases,” he emphasized.
What’s the Latest on Fallout Season 2?
There’s good news for Fallout fans: filming for Season 2 started this month. If all goes according to plan, production could wrap by early 2025, with the first episodes possibly debuting by the end of the year on Prime Video. However, a 2026 release is also a realistic expectation. Creators have promised that the second season will introduce new creatures, settings, and factions.
