OpenAI’s Upcoming Partnership with Samsung: What to Expect

TECH NEWS – The Sam Altman-led AI giant is reportedly preparing a deal with the South Korean company, and it could be a very painful one for Google.

OpenAI has been in the tech news a lot lately, and for good reason: search engine giant SearchGPT is about to take a shot at Google, and we’ve also reported that the company is planning an internet browser, and logically, its own AI-powered search engine will be the default option. They can already undercut Google, and now that could continue as Samsung is getting in on the action.

Google has long been under fire from the U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) for what it calls monopolistic practices by the Alphabet subsidiary. The DoJ wants to break up the monopoly, which could lead to the forced sale of Chrome (and perhaps Chromium?). The Information recently reported that a deal between OpenAI and Samsung could be in the works, and now a financial analyst, Dan Nystedt, has essentially confirmed it on Twitter:

“OpenAI is in talks with Samsung Electronics to bring its AI capabilities to Samsung’s electronic devices, according to media reports, which could pose a challenge to Google, which already offers AI services on Samsung smartphones. The OpenAI-Samsung discussions are said to mirror those between OpenAI and Apple, where OpenAI’s technology powers Apple’s intelligence features,” Nystedt wrote.

For Google, Samsung is a key partner and has been using Google’s artificial intelligence capabilities in its Galaxy smart devices for some time. If Alphabet is forced to sell Chrome, it would be logical for OpenAI to buy it, but the OpenAI-Samsung deal could extend to the basic search engine and even the browser in the future.

Of course, until a company officially confirms that negotiations are taking place, this should be treated as a rumor. If OpenAI does pull off the Samsung deal, it could turn the industry on its head.
