Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi has two options after the completion of Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3: a new IP or a numbered Final Fantasy…
Final Fantasy VII has undergone a major revamp with the release of the Remake and Rebirth. It has managed to capture the attention of both new and veteran players. Although the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director is currently busy finishing the trilogy, Naoki Hamaguchi’s team is looking to the future. However, the final FF remake will probably not be released until 2027 or 2028.
In a recent interview with GamesRadar, Hamaguchi was asked about the long-term future of his team after the completion of FFVII Remake Part 3. Hamaguchi appreciates the hard work of the team and sees only two possible paths: continuing the numbered Final Fantasy or launching a new IP. The head of Square Enix puts it this way. “My team has developed so much together, grown so much, gotten so much experience and knowledge while working on the Remake trilogy.”
The director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth looks to the future
“We’re still working on the third game – that’s not finished yet,” he says. Final Fantasy VII Part 3 Remake is the conclusion of the story, so VII will not get another sequel. part. “When we get to the end of the trilogy, in terms of what the next project that the team works on, I really don’t know yet at all. It could be the next numbered Final Fantasy. It could be a completely different brand. We might start up a completely new brand, but whatever it is, I mean, I’m incredibly excited to work on that and see what we can do with that knowledge we’ve built up,” he says.
The Square Enix team has finally achieved something remarkable, namely, retaining talent over the years to improve the quality of their games.
The difference between FFVII Remake and Rebirth is that the latter is the most nominated for GOTY 2024. “It’s just so difficult to make these real, high-end games without having that experience base. For a team with no experience at all, who’s never done a large-scale game, just to throw them in and get them to make something is such a difficult ask,” he says.
“My team has been together for about a total of 10 years, maybe. To go through this whole trilogy project, slowly building up our experience and our know-how, the team has seriously learned so much and grown so much during that period. So I think when we finally do bring the trilogy to a close and get the final game out, we’ll be in a really great position to move forward and do something even greater,” he concludes the conversation.
