Sony’s Plans for a Year-End PlayStation Event: What to Expect

According to a reliable leaker, Sony is planning either a PlayStation Showcase or a State of Play.

Writing on Twitter, billbil-kun, who has proven to be a very reliable source on Sony (he was the one who leaked the exact games for PlayStation Plus and then PlayStation Plus Essential; we’ll be reporting on the December games tomorrow, of course), thinks that a PlayStation Showcase could be coming soon. While he doesn’t know the answer, he does know that Sony is preparing a lot of content behind the scenes, so we can expect new news soon.

Presumably he could also give a hint when it will be, as the attached picture shows a 03, a 12 and a 20:24. March 12 is out of the question, so it’s December 3, which falls on a Tuesday, so we’re a week away from the event, which Sony will be very tight-lipped about as usual if it’s really the first Tuesday in December, which makes sense since Sony still hasn’t really spelled out what it’s planning for 2025 (aside from Marvel’s Wolverine, which Insomniac Games is working on).

There’s no way Sony is going to be prominently featured at The Game Awards, because if they have a lot of content, they probably won’t be allowed to hijack the show. It’s been a long time since the last PlayStation Showcase, and usually the State of Play happens. September was rumored to be the PlayStation 5 Pro, but that didn’t happen as Sony didn’t take the easy way out and got Mark Cerny, the internal architect of the PlayStation 4/Vita/5/5 Pro, to show off what the half-generation console refresh could do.

What’s next? There’s Marvel’s Wolverine alongside Ghost of Yotei, but beyond that, Sony is working more on hardware. There’s a PlayStation 6 in the pipeline (again, AMD-based), but there are also rumors that a PlayStation 5 handheld is in the pipeline, so it’s not just Microsoft working on handheld hardware, but Sony as well.

But this is all unofficial!
