Titan Quest 2 doesn’t have an official Early Access date yet, but it looks like it’s coming sometime in early 2025.
Among the upcoming RPGs, many of us are already looking forward to Titan Quest 2. Grimlore Games’ fantasy and Greek mythology-themed game, which replaces the old Iron Lore team, has become one of the most anticipated games with its combination of Diablo IV-style action and boss fights. While we’re still eagerly awaiting the Early Access date, the German studio has made one thing clear: contrary to previous rumours, their RPG won’t contain microtransactions, and there won’t be any loot boxes – what you earn in the game will be based solely on your sweat and effort.
It’s true that Titan Quest 2 won’t be free to play: it’ll first arrive as Early Access, with the aim of building out the full project over the next few years. But the trend of including battle passes, loot boxes and the like in a game like this has become a hazardous habit. Full-priced games, even early access ones, include such additional payments, which the European team does not support.
As Grimlore Games told InsiderGaming, “with Titan Quest 2, we intend to take a bit of a different approach than with most projects before.” – they mention, referring to their previous project, SpellForce 3. The Germans’ idea is to keep the RPG firmly in the genre and, above all, build on player feedback.
“We want to involve the community in a typical Steam Early Access manner” – they add.
Of course, the team knows that their direct competition is Diablo IV, not to mention Path of Exile, but they limit themselves to mentioning Blizzard’s series because it is a hegemonic rivalry. “When the first Titan Quest originally released in 2006, it was the alternative to Diablo 2 and not many others in the ARPG genre. In 2024, the situation looks a little different. Apart from the still ongoing Diablo franchise, there are numerous other contestants out there,” which encourages them to work much harder.
Moreover, this promise is not limited to the early access version. “There will never ever be any monetization mechanic in the game, urging you to spend money on any gameplay-related item to give anybody an advantage,” the developer added.
Multiplayer mode is also coming to Titan Quest 2 in Early Access
Among the promises for the future is that Titan Quest 2 plans to release a lot of post-release content. True, not much of it is known yet. Among the content that will be released immediately, shortly after the launch of Early Access, will be the RPG’s multiplayer mode. This will be a cooperative mode for up to four players, which will arrive sometime with the game’s first two major updates: it will be released in the first half of 2025.
