No Man’s Sky Finally Wins Approval, But It’s Far From Finished

“No Man’s Sky’s open world isn’t finished yet, and winning approval after 8 years is just the beginning. Hello Games’ space exploration game isn’t going to slow down its ambitions to become a landmark project.”

In 2016, Hello Games, a young yet technically proficient studio, released No Man’s Sky after over five years of development. However, the space exploration simulator launched with significant problems and widespread complaints. Now, eight years later, after extensive updates and improvements, the sci-fi game has achieved the acceptance it once aspired to. But according to the studio, this is only the beginning.

Engine programmer Martin Griffiths recently reflected on this milestone and shared insights into the game’s future. Griffiths discussed the initial hurdles the team faced and how the early failure became a driving force for continuous improvement. Meanwhile, Sean Murray, the founder of Hello Games, celebrated the achievement, emphasizing that the game’s current approval rating is a major milestone for the team and promising that much more is on the way.

Hello Games has continually evolved No Man’s Sky with updates that have radically transformed the game since its launch. Notable additions include mechas, underwater bases, corrupted planets, automated ships, and graphical upgrades like 8K support on PS5 Pro. Core systems, such as planet generation, water and wind simulations, and the Sentinel system, have also been completely revamped. These enhancements have enriched the gameplay and set new standards for space exploration titles.

Hello Games’ dedication to its community is clear, with updates showing no signs of slowing down. The team insists the game is “nowhere near finished.” This commitment bodes well for players who can anticipate more surprises and innovative content. The story of No Man’s Sky showcases not only the power of continuous improvement but also how a failed vision can be redeemed and turned into a celebrated work.

Next Stop for No Man’s Sky: Worlds Part 2

The next big chapter for the game is Worlds Part 2. This second half of the massive Worlds expansion, whose first part debuted in July 2024, has been delayed to “a later date,” the studio confirmed in August, citing scheduling and ambition-related issues. Many players had speculated that Worlds Part 2 would arrive in November alongside the PS5 Pro’s launch, but that did not happen.
