We’ve watched the first three-quarters of an hour of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and I can say that we’ve only been looking forward to the game even more since then…
2018 saw the release of a game that took the open-world RPG genre to a new level. Kingdom Come: Deliverance was a mix of historical realism, seriousness, and complexity, but it was far from flawless. Now, five years later, Warhorse Studios has learned from its mistakes, and while Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will be more ambitious, they’re working carefully to deliver an experience that’s at least as solid as it is satisfying. If the previous adventures in the medieval Czech Kingdom haven’t convinced you to sit on pins and needles for the title, the studio has shared the first 43 minutes of gameplay from the RPG! (See the end of the article.)
The trailer, released as part of IGN’s coverage, provides a detailed look at the early stages of the story, highlighting the freedom of action and narrative choices that will shape the sequel. The gameplay begins with the story of Godwin, a soldier defending a besieged fortress, before moving back in time to focus on Henry de Skalitz, the saga’s protagonist.
Players will accompany Henry and his team, which includes the well-known Sir Hans Capon, on a journey that will soon culminate in a clash with enemy soldiers.
This opening promises a more profound, personalized narrative experience, with decisions that will affect the course of the story.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will feature three playstyles
One of the gameplay highlights is the three playstyles you can choose from when customizing Henry. Players can choose to focus on combat, diplomacy, or stealth. All of this determines the starting experience points and upgradeable abilities. This system gives players more freedom to shape the protagonist to their preferred playstyle. This way, each user can tailor the experience to their own needs.
Combat, a series cornerstone, is given a prominent role in this demo. The gameplay shows the learning potential of the combat system. This, of course, again represents a tactical and technical challenge. Players must master its mechanics in order to effectively meet the challenges of the Middle Ages, repeating the level of realism that characterized the first title.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is scheduled to be released on February 11, 2025, for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. It seems like it’s worth the wait, as the title aims to take immersion and historical gameplay to new heights.
