TECH NEWS – Samsung, Google, and Qualcomm are all working together on a mixed reality (MR) device, and it could be the one we hear about soon.
The South Korean tech giant has hinted at something in the pipeline, but it’s been delayed several times due to the challenges of developing the product. The wait is about to end, however, as we’re now hearing that Samsung will unveil the long-awaited smart glasses next year alongside the Galaxy S25 series. Rumors suggest that Samsung will unveil the gadget during Galaxy Unpacked 2025, and this was reported by a more reliable insider on Twitter.
“Just in: Samsung will unveil a prototype of its Augmented Reality (AR) glasses, currently in development, during the Galaxy S25 Unpacked event early next year, likely in the form of videos or images. In addition, before revealing the prototype, Samsung plans to unveil the XR platform, the software that will power the AR glasses, later this month,” Jukanlosreve wrote.
The prototype will therefore take a similar approach to Meta’s Project Orion smartglasses. Of course, this has not yet been confirmed by Samsung. The decision was probably made because Apple’s Vision Pro has not sold so well, while Meta’s product has received mostly positive reviews, as it is easier to use and may be more useful. As the public turns to smart glasses rather than headsets, Samsung and Google are looking to follow suit.
Samsung is rumored to be unveiling its smart glasses software in December, which could further stir the pot. This will give developers an early look at AR and allow the ecosystem to take shape. Again, we have to wonder how muscular the hardware will be, since even Apple has yet to combine high performance AND low power consumption with small size.
None of this is official!
