“The Most Insane Question” – Angelina Jolie Reveals Her Opinion on Being Made into a Biopic!

MOVIE NEWS – Angelina Jolie gets the “most insane question” she’s ever been asked…

Angelina Jolie is ready to dazzle us as one of the world’s greatest opera singers in her new film. But before Maria hits Netflix on December 11, the Oscar-winning actress recently took time out of her busy schedule to respond to what she called a “crazy question.” Jolie plays Maria Callas in Pablo Larrain’s new biopic, which has been met with rave reviews from everyone and has a healthy dose of Oscar potential heading into awards season.

She spoke to The Times about what it meant to her to play Maria and what it was like to embody someone with such a rich and complex story, and then the conversation turned to Jolie. When asked what a biopic about the Tomb Raider star would be like, Jolie scorned the reporter for even bringing up the subject.

“That gets the most insane question award.”

“When you’re a public person and you’re playing her, you’re conscious of how you would hate for somebody to interpret your life or think they understand your life, so we tried to be thoughtful. Let’s hope there isn’t one about my life.”

It’s a harsh question, perhaps, but a valid one, considering that Jolie’s life has had its ups and downs, and at times it seemed like it was ripped from a Hollywood script. There’s the tumultuous relationship with her father, Jon Voight, her rebellious teenage years, her struggles with drugs, self-harm, and an eating disorder, her rise to stardom, and of course, her three marriages/divorces. Seeing as how much of this happened in full public view, it’s understandable that one would be curious to see how it would play out on the big screen. At the same time, we understand that Jolie doesn’t really want to relive any of this for our entertainment.

Angelina Jolie Says Filming Maria Was Like Therapy

When we last saw Jolie, she was playing Thena in 2021’s Eternals, the 26th film in the MCU. She then directed the war drama Without Blood, which premiered at TIFF this year to mixed reviews. Now, she’s playing an opera legend, and if that’s not enough to convince us of her chameleon-like talent, we don’t know what is. However, there’s one thing Jolie didn’t know before filming the biopic: how to sing opera.

Jolie took training to help her embody the role of Callas so that her singing voice could be recorded on set, rather than dubbed later. On the first day of filming, she went to a refresher course and ended up crying because of how much she had to give to the role. She said that for her, it was “the therapy I didn’t realize I needed.”

“Singing opera requires you to be as emotionally open as you possibly can be — it’s not like singing in the car. It’s cathartic. I’ve never pushed myself or opened myself up in that way, that was daunting.”
