Indiana Jones and the Great Circle: Amazing Xbox Ray Tracing Experience! [VIDEO]

It’s the first game to require a ray-tracing (RT) graphics card on the PC, but it doesn’t disappoint on the console.

 

MachineGames’ game is only a few days away from release, but the press has already published reviews of the game, as there is no longer an embargo on Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. So Digital Foundry was able to publish the technical analysis it has already done on the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. According to them, RT is excellent on Microsoft’s current generation consoles.

Ray Traced Diffuse Global Illumination (RTGI) makes the game look fantastic. It’s used to calculate indirect lighting from light sources like the sun, so the lighting looks incredibly natural in almost every scene. RTGI looks incredible in scenes with light coming in from the outside, where the lighting doesn’t spill out and there are no light leaks or gaps in the lighting. Even more impressive is how clean it looks, although there are some image quality stability issues when the camera is moving quickly.

The Xbox Series X has an average resolution of 1800p and can successfully maintain a frame rate of 60 FPS. The game’s ray-traced lighting system is appropriate for the setting, as Indy explores many locations with natural lighting, which greatly enhances the experience, while the entire game provides an eye-catching visual. It also runs well on the Xbox Series S, but understandably compromises had to be made. The resolution had to be lowered to 1080p and below, but overall the experience is stable, except that Variable Rate Shading (VRS) is not well implemented and the texture quality is poorer.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be released early next week for Xbox Series and PC (and will be available to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers), with a PlayStation 5 port coming sometime in the spring.
