Steam’s latest free game is already a massive hit and looks stunning. Could this be the Ghost Recon revival fans have been hoping for?

Steam’s new free game is a Ghost Recon-style tactical shooter that fans have been eagerly waiting for, and it’s already generating buzz online, thanks to its gorgeous visuals and engaging gameplay.

There was a time when I adored Ubisoft’s Ghost Recon series. The combination of strategic gameplay, teamwork, thrilling action, and lush graphics always delivered an excellent experience. Fans are still holding out hope for a return to that glory, especially with rumors circulating about a new installment in development.

Unfortunately, when Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands arrived in 2017, I felt the series had lost some of its charm. While not terrible, it was mediocre at best. The 2019 follow-up, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint, fared even worse, leaving fans longing for a proper comeback that may never materialize.

In the meantime, however, it’s worth taking a look at Delta Force, a brand-new multiplayer military shooter developed by Team Jade and published by TiMi Studio Group. This revival brings back a series we haven’t seen since its last PC release in 2009.

“The iconic series returns as the definitive free-to-play modern team-based tactical shooter and features three distinct gameplay modes: large-scale PvP warfare, intense extraction shooter action, and a remake of the legendary Black Hawk Down campaign,” reads the description on Steam.

Delta Force is currently available via open beta on Steam, and it’s already proving to be a hit. According to SteamDB, the game has surpassed 68,000 players in just its first few hours.

As word spreads, I anticipate that concurrent player numbers will continue to rise in the coming days and weeks. Of course, I could be wrong.

Being a free-to-play game, Delta Force includes microtransactions, but the developers have assured players that there are no pay-to-win mechanics. Instead, a separate currency is used for cosmetic items—a system that will hopefully remain fair and transparent.

A full release date for Delta Force on PC has not been announced yet, but launches on PlayStation and Xbox are also in the works.
