Obsidian Entertainment’s next game aims to give players as much security as possible.
Obsidian’s first-person role-playing game will try to deliver on the promise that you can experience the world at your own pace, and the order is up to you. Berto Ritger, one of the game’s designers, told GamesRadar that Avowed’s missions can be started in a variety of ways…even by going in the opposite direction of the main quest’s marker, as there are organic ways to start the available quests.
“I think almost every, if not every, quest in the game has more than one way to start it. You can do things out of order and pick up items and give them to people who want them or kill a character or whatever, you can play things out of order. You can approach a dungeon or vice versa from a different direction than you normally would. And we want you to be able to do that just based on how you naturally progress through the world,” Ritger explained.
Confessed director Carrie Patel has previously stated that the choices we make and the consequences of those choices will be based on what we find, and this is in line with the idea that we can approach quests in multiple ways. This will also enhance the dialogue between players, so that they can talk about how someone got to mission Z via route X, while someone else took route Y, and exchange ideas about it. This, in turn, should help Obsidian Entertainment keep the game relatively relevant, because let’s not forget that it’s coming out at a pretty crowded time after its delay.
Avowed will be released on February 18th for the Xbox Series and PC, and Xbox Game Pass subscribers will have access to Obsidian’s first-person RPG on day one. There are a lot of games coming out in February (and even March; for example, the new project from the developers of It Takes Two, which we wrote about in more detail yesterday).
