TECH NEWS – Nvidia is slowly replacing its flagship GeForce RTX 4090, which was fast as hell, with the RTX 5090…
The RTX 4090, the top-of-the-line card for the Ada Lovelace architecture, has been on the market for almost two years. It was a huge improvement over the RTX 3090/3090 Ti pair, but it came at a price. You would think that with the discontinuation of production, retailers would quickly clear out the remaining stock at a low price so that customers could get their hands on this very powerful graphics card at a low price, but that’s not what happened, it’s the opposite!
The graphics card has become more expensive at the end of its commercial cycle, and in some cases significantly so. For example, on the website of Newegg (North American online retailer), the TUF Gaming model is only available from one manufacturer, Asus, for $2700, while the other models are available for $3600-3700. The same is true for Amazon, where most models are out of stock and the rest are available for a minimum of $2500. Another retailer, B&H Photo, lists all RTX 4090 models as discontinued, and Best Buy lists them as sold out, confirming that the card is in its final days and that those who still have stock are trying to sell it at a steep price. Remember, the RTX 4090 had an MSRP of $1600…
In the UK and EU, the situation is similar: either you’ve run out of cards, or you still have some, but at a high price. If this had happened, for example, with Nvidia’s RTX 4060 (the entry level of desktop graphics cards – laptops have RTX 4050 chips) or the hordes of retailers, everyone would be angry at them, because it is indeed the custom to cut prices.
The RTX 4090 was already in reduced production in the second half of the year, so that’s the end of it…
