After this week’s release of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Lucasfilm Games would see more stories featuring the hated treasure hunter…
Over the past few days, we’ve reported on how spectacular Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is on the Xbox Series, and how it easily brings even the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 to its knees. The game’s reviews have been pretty good so far, with an average score of 87/100 on both Xbox Series and PC on Metacritic, proving that the single-player, first-person adventure set between two films in 1937 has hit its stride and that single-player titles can still be successful today.
MachineGames, the studio best known for the 2014 Wolfenstein reboot, is now working on a DLC called The Order of the Giants, which will be released sometime next year, with a PlayStation 5 port of the game coming in the spring (but Disney had a big hand in this, as they also own Lucasfilm Games and wanted a multiplatform release of their IP). In an interview with Variety, Douglas Reilly, vice president and managing director of Lucasfilm Games, revealed that Indy could grow into a game franchise if the current game is successful, and that MachineGames could even work on a sequel, and also addressed whether the game’s story is canon to the cinematic world:
“Right now we’re focused on getting this out to the public and getting to the DLC and making this as successful as possible. I think we’re always looking for great stories. And the good news is that there’s a lot of space between the movies where we can tell more and more Indiana Jones stories that I think would be super interesting. The canon is such a complicated concept. It is an authentic story that takes place between Raiders [of the Lost Ark] and The Last Crusade. We are working closely with the studio and the franchise management. So yes, it is meant to be an authentic Indiana Jones experience in that sense,” Reilly said.
So they’re going to wait and see what the sales are and then decide.
