Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is being directed by Neil Druckmann at Naughty Dog…
Besides the Uncharted games and The Last of Us series, it’s been a long time since we’ve seen a new creative license from Naughty Dog, but at The Game Awards 2024, the creator of Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter unveiled their new video game. Which couldn’t be more different from their recent projects! Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is a new sci-fi action game in which we can take on the role of bounty hunter Jordan A. Mun.
The trailer for the game, directed by Neil Druckmann, one of the big guns responsible for the success of the studio’s series, barely gave us a taste of what Intergalactic’s action will be like. But there’s no doubting how spectacular the PlayStation 5 title is: “The game takes place thousands of years in the future,” and it delights us with a retro-futuristic, 80s-esque sci-fi style that’s very Alien-like, but less dark.
Intergalactic is “the deepest” Naughty Dog game yet
Intergalactic, which has been in development since 2020, takes us to the planet Sempiria, “a distant planet whose communication with the outside universe went dark hundreds of years ago. In fact, anyone who’s flown to it hoping to unravel its mysterious past was never heard from again,” according to the PlaySation blog. “Jordan will have to use all her skills and wits if she hopes to be the first person in over 600 years to leave its orbit,” adds Neil Druckmann.
Naughty Dog declined to give any further details about the story, “at least not yet,” but they did make it clear that the game will “live up to the studio’s tradition” of creating memorable stories. “Our narrative goals are rivaled only by our gameplay ambitions,” Druckmann said.
In fact, he says that Intergalactic will be their deepest game yet, drawing on everything they’ve learned from their previous work.
Without giving any further details, Druckmann confirmed that the actress playing Jordan is Tati Gabrielle. And those who paid close attention may have noticed that one scene features another well-known actor, Kumail Nanjiani, who appeared in The Eternals and the Obi-Wan series. As for the music, Naughty Dog teamed up with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross to compose the soundtrack for Intergalactic, which the trailer gives us a very brief taste of.
