[TGA 2024] The Witcher 4 Trailer Is Here – We Know Who the Protagonist Will Be! [VIDEO]

The Witcher 4 returns with a new protagonist and new stories after the last part in 2015…

Almost 20 years ago, a Polish studio came up with an RPG based on a Polish series of novels, which barely left the country and became a billion-dollar saga recognized by millions of players and viewers worldwide. Now we can finally see The Witcher 4, the next major instalment in CD Projekt RED’s RPG series – with a much more mature Ciri!

When The Witcher 3 ended, many of us thought that the license would never return. With this conclusion to the story of Geralt of Rivia, which CD Projekt expanded based on the books, many of us were satisfied. But it became clear that with the strength of the Polish license, the development team would not miss the idea of expanding the universe with an open-world RPG, which – CD Projekt emphasized – would be single-player.

Ciri, the New Protagonist and the Lynx School in The Witcher 4

Now that Geralt has hung up his swords, Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon will take over the baton. Although the very first image released for the game already hinted at a significant expansion of Andrzej Sapkowski’s universe, with the addition of the Lynx School, we didn’t know that Ciri herself would be the one to wear the lynx medallion.

With a new story and a much more mature Ciri – both physically and in terms of witcher abilities – Geralt’s adopted daughter significantly expands on the gameplay possibilities seen in The Witcher 3. The combat promises to be much more realistic and, if this animated trailer is to be believed, more brutal. What remains unchanged, however, is the contempt of the inhabitants of the continent for wizards, regardless of where they come from or who they are.

The Witcher 4

“We’re starting a new Witcher saga, this time starring Ciri,” said Sebastian Kalemba, the game’s director.

“We’ve known for a long time that Ciri would be the main character in The Witcher IV; it felt natural, and we think Ciri deserves it. In this game, we want to explore what it means to truly become a Witcher following Ciri’s journey. This trailer is a little taste of that and of just how dark and deep The Witcher universe can be.”

Best of all, as the studio mentioned at the beginning of the trailer, the first trailer for The Witcher 4 is running on Unreal Engine 5, which the studio has previously confirmed will be the new engine that will power future games in the series, and will run on an unannounced NVIDIA RTX card. According to the press release shared with the media, it is a pre-rendered motion picture, and as they say, thanks to UE5, it aims to be “the most immersive and ambitious open-world The Witcher game yet”.

With The Witcher 4, CD Projekt looks to the future with ambition and hope, and one thing is clear: they want to return with releases that meet expectations. However, there is still no release date, and we have no idea when the new adventure in Geralt’s universe will arrive. All they have said is that it will come “a year or two after the first trailer”… so the countdown begins!
