Nintendo Switch 2: Will the Japanese Company’s New Console Be Big?

The successor to the Nintendo Switch hasn’t been officially christened yet, but we’ve heard rumors about it too, so let’s see what’s been popping up lately about the big N console that will follow the Switch.

Nintendo Switch 2 is a tentative name, but since it’s so catchy, it would be logical for the Japanese company to go with it. (The Witcher 4 was codenamed Polaris, but CD Projekt RED ended up calling it that…) Earlier this month, Dbrand CEO Adam Ijaz claimed that the device would measure 270x116x14 mm with the Joy-Cons attached, and even without the controllers, the successor could have a larger display than the current Switch OLED model. And on Reddit, a user who goes by the name NextHandheld provided some more details…

They somehow got their hands on a console already destined for stores, and according to them, the big N simply called the new hardware Switch 2, and one of the moderators also authenticated it. They wouldn’t show any pictures and wouldn’t respond to private messages, but they did say that the new Joy-Cons could provide some gamers with new experiences with features. Compared to the Steam Deck, he enjoyed most of the Switch 2 and felt it was better. The Switch 2 logo is the Joy-Con logo, and to the right of it is a number 2. Production is well ahead of schedule, but we don’t know what the opening titles will be.

Let’s go back to the size of the Switch 2. Dbrand in Canada got a 3D scan of the real hardware and derived the dimensions of 270x116x14mm. Without the Joy-Cons it would be 200x116x14mm. The display would be 8″ (20.32 cm), which is larger than the Switch’s OLED (7″, 17.78 cm), not to mention the base Switch (6.2″, ~15.75 cm), and of course larger than the Switch Lite (5.5″, ~14 cm).

Nintendo will unveil the successor to the Switch at the end of March. The console will probably be released in April at the earliest.
