TECH NEWS – Even considering the Cupertino company’s pricing, the iPhone 17 Air could come with a hefty price tag next year…
We’ve already heard that Apple is planning to release an ultra-thin phone, and it’s supposed to be a handset that won’t be able to compete with the two high-end models (Pro, Pro Max). This was reported by two Wall Street Journal editors, Aaron Tilley and Yang Jie, in an article behind a paywall, and was the basis for WCCFTech’s summary of the rumors.
The iPhone 17 Air will be thinner than the current (16) models. We previously heard that the thickness will be between 5 and 6.25 mm, which is a big improvement over the 7.8 mm of the base iPhone 16. The Pro model is 8.25 mm, so compared to those, the Air will be a whole new dimension. By the way, the thinnest iPhone ever was the 2014 iPhone 6 (6.9 mm), so it could be slimmer than that.
But there are trade-offs. There will be no physical SIM card tray, and it will have only a single camera sensor. The iPhone 17 Air’s camera system will be simplified, and while we haven’t heard any more specs on it, it’s said to be quite similar to the iPhone SE 4, which is expected to be available from early 2025. But how much will it cost? Well, that might come as a bit of a surprise…
Supposedly, the iPhone 17 Pro won’t be much more expensive! Apple will justify this with the thinness of the device. It won’t be as much of a Pro, but the company will probably want to target those who want to flash a cool device with the Air model. In terms of specs, it will probably be on par with the base iPhone 17 (base A19 chip, and 8GB of RAM for Apple Intelligence). In the US, the iPhone 17 Pro will start at $1000, so the Air will probably be available for $900… but if the Pro gets more expensive, it could go for $1000.
All this is not official!
