The Witcher can’t go on without the card game, which has become much more popular than the dice game of the first two episodes.

The Witcher 4 was revealed at The Game Awards, and we’ve already reported that Ciri will have a new voice (and you can see the difference in the trailer). Sebastien Kalemba (director of The Witcher 4) and Gosia Mitręga (executive producer) from CD Projekt RED (CDPR) talked to Easy Allies about the Polish company’s next game, which will definitely feature Gwent! According to Mitręga, no one will be disappointed with the studio’s game. Kalemba then revealed that Ciri has new powers and a magical chain:

“The chain is not only a tool that comes from the school of the lynx, but it’s also a pretty cool reference to the very first trailer we released 20 years ago for Striga, which was heavily inspired by a short story by Andrzej Sapkowski where Geralt literally uses a silver chain to fight a Striga, so that’s kind of a segue. That’s one thing. The second thing, for those who don’t know, Ciri is a very special being. She’s a Source. That means she has this Elder blood, and she’s a pretty powerful person.

In this world, there’s a magic, a source, that you can control and catalyze to create a spell, like Yennefer, Triss, or other mages in this world. Ciri, as a powerful source, is also able to use this magic after her mutation, just like Geralt was able to use signs, which are like simplified magic. Ciri literally uses energy. In the trailer, she’s taking it from water, which is one of the elements that’s part of the Source, so she’s kind of extracting the energy from that particular element and catalyzing it to create a bolt to create this window of opportunity and defeat the monster,” Kalemba said.

But which ending of The Witcher 3 is considered authentic? The door was left open on this point: “We can’t tell you more right now, but we will definitely be referring to the endings of The Wild Hunt, because we have a lot of respect for the canon. For us, the canon is Andrzej Sapkowski’s literature and, of course, our games. This is a shared world. The Witcher 4 takes place a few years after The Wild Hunt. Geralt will appear and who knows who else,” Kalemba added.

We don’t know when The Witcher 4 will be released, but the village seen in the video will definitely be in the northern region.
