Cronos: The New Dawn: Not Inspired by Silent Hill 2 but by Other Sources, Says Bloober Team

Forget Silent Hill-style gameplay! The combat system of Cronos: The New Dawn is closer to Resident Evil, drawing inspiration from Capcom’s remakes, combining classic design with modern technology, explains the game director.

After the success of Silent Hill 2 Remake, Bloober Team is back with another horror experience that already gave us chills during its first presentation: Cronos: The New Dawn. Set for a 2025 release, many players are curious about the game’s mechanics. The project’s lead director clarified that its combat system is more akin to the Resident Evil series rather than Silent Hill.

In an interview with GamingBolt, Jacek Zięba, the game’s director, stated: “When it comes to combat, Cronos is more Resident Evil and less Silent Hill. The recent Resident Evil remakes have shown us how to cleverly combine old-school designs with modern technology and gaming standards.”

He further explained: “Each of those remakes explores different waters—they provide a huge knowledge pool we can draw from. This allows us to create something both familiar and fresh for players while also offering a unique experience.” With this approach, Cronos: The New Dawn aims to deliver an entirely new survival horror adventure without losing the genre’s essence.

Between Resident Evil and Dark Souls

For years, Resident Evil has been a significant source of inspiration for various video game projects. Cronos: The New Dawn, however, also takes cues from FromSoftware’s excellence in level design. In the same interview, Zięba revealed that the game draws from “Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 4, and sometimes Dark Souls” and will feature “maze-like stages”.
