Rumors have it that Square Enix is planning a broadcast similar to Sony’s State of Play, Nintendo’s Nintendo Direct, or even Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase.
Square Enix hasn’t said anything about Kingdom Hearts 4 in quite some time. The Japanese company is working with Disney on a new main episode of the action-RPG, which was announced on the 20th anniversary of the franchise in April 2022, more than two and a half years ago. Since then, we have heard literally NOTHING officially! We didn’t even see the latest Kingdom Hearts game at The Game Awards. That may be about to change, however, as a YouTube user who focuses mainly on Kingdom Hearts, TheGamersJoint, has reported an interesting rumor in the video embedded below.
“Recently, I actually heard a little tidbit of information. Take this with a grain of salt, but it came from a source of mine. I’ll keep it anonymous, but I heard that the reason Square Enix was absent from Summer Games Fest along with The Game Awards is because they are planning to start doing their own showcases, with one happening in February. At some point, Square Enix has to step forward and say, “Hey, this is our roadmap for 2025. Having our own event in February actually makes a lot of sense. Now, I’m not going to put all my eggs in one basket. I’ll believe it when I see it. But we should, if it is going to happen, maybe get an official announcement sometime in early February,” the YouTuber said.
The last such broadcast, called Square Enix Presents, was part of E3 2021 on June 13, 2021, so it’s been three and a half years since then as well. In addition to Kingdom Hearts 4, there’s also Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate, which was announced in January 2020 (!). Like Kingdom Hearts 4, this game will be developed by Square Enix using Unreal Engine 5. According to Tetsuya Nomura, the new Kingdom Hearts (supposedly coming to Nintendo Switch 2) will limit the number of worlds the engine can play, but our keyblade weapon will also be used as a grappling hook for traversal. Sora, the protagonist’s daily life, will be explored more than before, and there will be some sort of crafting…
But this is all unofficial.
