TECH NEWS – The “reds” will also be unveiling their new graphics cards at CES, so Nvidia won’t be alone with new graphics hardware.
So far, it looked like AMD’s new graphics cards would be called RX 8000, but the company may have jumped the gun by saying RX 9000. On Twitter, momomo_us posted an image that looks like it could be a trade listing, and at the top of the list we see two cards: RX 9070 and RX 9070 XTX. So basically AMD is following Nvidia’s naming scheme, because until now the most powerful card was called RX 7900 XTX, so the focus was on the second digit (the higher the number, the more powerful the card). The naming was confirmed by another insider, All The Watts!, and even the name RX 8040 appeared on his list.
According to a third leaker, HXL, the 8000 cards will be for RDNA 3.5 GPUs (such as the Strix Halo), while the RDNA 4 cards will be launched by AMD as RX 9000. As for processors, the 9000 Ryzen are the newest, but there the emphasis is on the second digit (since there is for example a processor called 9800X3D). By omitting the numbering of the eight with RDNA 4 graphics cards, it will be easier to see which hardware represents which level.
Are these reference 8000 series card?

On Reddit, a graphics card was spotted in a banner. It does not look like the cards AMD has released so far. Black and silver colors were used by AMD, and this is obviously a reference card (i.e. a model similar to Nvidia’s Founders Edition) with a Ryzen 9 processor next to it, so it may have been created for some kind of bundle promotion. The top-of-the-line RDNA 4 could be 45% faster than the RX 7900 XTX in terms of ray tracing, while raster performance is rumored to be on par with the RTX 4080.
Hopefully the good performance will be matched by a fair price this time.
