January Xbox Game Pass: Five Exciting New Games Revealed!

Although Microsoft’s subscription service hasn’t officially announced what will be part of its first update in 2025, we can already name five titles that will definitely be part of the Xbox Game Pass lineup in the first month of the year.

Carrion (console, PC, cloud) is coming on January 2, 2025 for Game Pass Ultimate/PC Game Pass/Game Pass Standard members, but it’s a returning title, as is Road 96 on January 7 (same platforms, same subscription tiers). We heard about these two during the Xbox Game Pass update announced in early December, but there are more titles to come. A new release, Eternal Strands, is coming on January 28th (making it available to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers), followed by Sniper Elite: Resistance (which will also be a new game), and then on January 31st, Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector will arrive on Xbox Game Pass (which will also be a brand new title).

The man behind Eternal Strands is Mike Laidlaw, who previously worked on Dragon Age at BioWare. The action-adventure feels very much like The Legend of Zelda. Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector will, unsurprisingly, be a sequel to Citizen Sleeper, and given that game’s excellent critical reception, perhaps it will be no different. And the Rebellion’s mastery of co-op might be of interest to those looking for something new.

Of course, these won’t be the only titles available on Xbox Game Pass. It would look very bad for Microsoft if that were the case. The January update is not expected to be announced by Microsoft until January 7. Previously there were two updates per month, but who knows if that will thin out to one per month. At least they always provide a transparent list of departing games (Sony refuses to do that).
