Exciting News: Mike Laidlaw’s New Game Eternal Strands’ Demo Launching Soon!

The game from Yellow Brick Games will not even get a demo a few weeks or months after the release of the full game (we have seen examples of this…), but will take a much more consumer-friendly approach!

Mike Laidlaw, who was previously the Creative Director of Dragon Age at BioWare, wrote on Bluesky that Yellow Brick Games will release a demo of Eternal Strands on January 21st because many people have asked the studio about it and he thinks it would be helpful to get a feel for the game before it’s released. Yes: In 2025, unfortunately, it’s newsworthy for someone to release a demo of their game before its release. Two decades ago, this was common practice, and PC magazines would include more than one demo on their CDs or DVDs.

The synopsis of Eternal Strands Steam is also more about how we will act in the world (the physics system will be the core of the game) than why we do what we do: “Explore the wilderness, the capital city of Dynevron, and the secrets beneath, as every surface is climbable. Magical abilities can build bridges, burn barriers, or launch Brynn across the world. The next-generation physics system encourages and rewards player creativity in exploration as well as combat. As the secrets of the Enclave unfold, return to base camp to consult with a rich cast of characters.”

Laidlaw wouldn’t say how much of the full game will be in the Eternal Strands demo, but he did admit to being nervous, excited, and curious about the release because it’s a stark change of context for him. There weren’t hundreds of people working on the game, just sixty. It’s not a AAA game, it’s an indie budget title. He’s hoping for two things: that people enjoy it, and that he can continue to work with Yellow Brick Games.

The demo of Eternal Strands will be released on Steam on January 21st, followed by the full game on January 28th.
