The Witcher 4 Will Feature New Regions and Monsters That Manipulate Your Fears

The map for The Witcher 4 will include “entirely new areas,” along with creatures capable of “playing with your own fears.” CD Projekt RED has confirmed that the map will be comparable in size to The Witcher 3.

The Witcher universe is a richly expanding world that continues to grow with every novel and video game release, captivating long-time fans and newcomers alike with its dark storytelling and iconic characters. However, The Witcher 4 signals the start of a new chapter for CD Projekt and its beloved franchise. While the fantasy RPG is already in development, it’s still several years away from launching on current-gen consoles. Fortunately, some intriguing details about the game have already emerged.

In recent weeks, the directors of The Witcher 4 have revealed plenty of exciting information about the RPG, but a recent interview on the Parris YouTube channel gave us fresh insights into the enemies players will encounter. One such creature, featured in the trailer, is Bauk. This fearsome monster resides in one of the “brand-new regions” that players will explore in the game. According to game director Sebastian Kalemba (via GamesRadar), Bauk is designed to “manipulate your fears.”

Kalemba also explained how the franchise has evolved alongside the way monsters are conceived. “If you think about it, our approach to the term ‘monster’ is completely different from The Witcher 1,” he said. “Back then, you faced a standard monster, then humans who behaved monstrously. Now, players must first battle inner demons before finally discovering Bauk and defeating him.”

The Size of The Witcher 4’s Map

In a separate interview, CD Projekt shared that The Witcher 4 will feature a map similar in size to The Witcher 3, but with new areas to explore and fresh storylines to experience. The studio clarified that they do not believe in creating excessively large open worlds. Instead, their goal is to make The Witcher 4’s map meaningful and immersive.
