STEAM DECK HÍREK – Steam has quietly slapped Palworld with the “Not Compatible” tag for the Deck, leaving fans perplexed. Despite this setback, hope remains. With the revival of Feybreak, the survival game continues to thrive, even under this new store classification.
Palworld closed out 2024 on a high note. Thanks to Feybreak, the open-world survival game saw a resurgence in player numbers, reaching new heights after months of decline. This is unsurprising given the game added over two million new players, making it challenging to maintain such figures. However, Pocketpair’s game has faced persistent challenges, with the latest mystery surrounding its abrupt loss of the “Playable” label for Steam Deck in Valve’s store. What led to this shift?
Valve’s rating system assesses games based on several criteria, determining their compatibility with its portable console. The system classifies titles into four categories: “Verified,” “Playable,” “Not Compatible,” and “Unknown,” evaluating factors like interface adaptability and overall performance. However, a “Not Compatible” label doesn’t necessarily mean the game is unplayable, just that it doesn’t meet Valve’s performance standards.
Valve and Pocketpair Silent, but Palworld Persists
Surprisingly, Valve removed the “Playable” tag from Palworld on Steam Deck, changing its status to “Not Supported,” suggesting the game no longer officially runs on the device. Yet, many of the game’s 200,000 average active players report enjoying it on the “PC extension” that Valve introduced three years ago. Initial analyses from Gaming On Linux noted the game could run at over 30 FPS with slight graphical adjustments.
Palworld Still Among Steam Deck’s Most Played Titles
Gamers are questioning Valve’s decision, as reports indicate the game performs well on Steam Deck, with only minor issues. Speculation points to Feybreak’s release potentially affecting the game’s rating due to font errors, rendering it incompatible under Valve’s standards. However, tests by Windows Central revealed the game achieves 40 FPS on low settings, comparable to previous performance levels, leaving the reclassification’s reasoning unclear.
While Pocketpair has not officially commented, players can improve their experience by adjusting settings. Tweaking shadow and effect quality to “Medium” and disabling Vsync and Motion Blur balances performance and visuals, ensuring smooth gameplay despite lingering doubts.
