Two promotional albums from Activision’s two early Call of Duty episodes will be heard online for the first time.
We’re not kidding when we say these are early episodes. We’re not talking about 2013’s Call of Duty: Ghosts or 2008’s Call of Duty: World at War, but games even older than that. One is Call of Duty 2 from 2005 and the other is Call of Duty 2: Big Red One. The latter needs some explanation. This episode was developed by Treyarch and released for consoles, also in 2005 (the console-exclusive spin-off was released for PlayStation 2, Xbox; the GameCube port is courtesy of High Voltage Software).
So we’re talking about two episodes that are nearly 20 years old. An album’s worth of soundtracks from each of them have surfaced on YouTube. The Call of Duty 2 promo consists of 42 songs and is 57 minutes and 14 seconds long, while the Call of Duty 2: Big Red One promo consists of 38 songs and is 43 minutes and 19 seconds long. We have linked two of them. The first one is the unused menu music for Call of Duty 2 (it was leaked as Menu COD 2 ST bnc.mp3) and the second one is the early intro music for Call of Duty 2 (Attract COD2 Cmp w ch Mx 2-01.mp3).
The many recordings surfaced on a private forum on Friday, January 3. The poster, Alexandria, wrote: “I wish I knew more about where these really came from, but I couldn’t be happier and more grateful for them, considering the quality of the gamerips floating around; how loudly mastered Call of Duty 2’s in-game music is, and the quantization issues and SFX in Big Red One’s.”
It’s also nice to see the old, unused music, as it gives a fuller picture of what was planned back in the day.
