PlatinumGames is waking up from its slumber and inviting fans to celebrate Bayonetta’s birthday in style with “exciting surprises.” The Japanese studio marks the Umbra Witch’s 15th anniversary in October 2025.
It’s been a long journey since Bayonetta first graced the gaming world. Released in October 2009 by PlatinumGames, under the direction of Hideki Kamiya, it was only the studio’s second title but quickly became an iconic action game. Now, almost 15 years later, and with Kamiya no longer at the helm, PlatinumGames is gearing up to honor Bayonetta’s legacy with new projects and celebrations.
Gratitude for Years of Support
In a message shared on its official website and social media channels, PlatinumGames expressed heartfelt thanks for the enduring love and support the Bayonetta series has received. “Thanks to everyone’s support, Bayonetta has reached its 15th anniversary. This is a very special milestone for us, and we would like to take this opportunity to express our sincerest gratitude,” the statement reads. The studio also reflected on the franchise’s evolution, from the release of the original game to the critically acclaimed sequels Bayonetta 2 and Bayonetta 3, as well as the prequel Bayonetta Origins.
Although Hideki Kamiya, the creator of Bayonetta, is no longer part of the studio, PlatinumGames remains committed to developing the series in collaboration with Nintendo. This partnership, the studio confirmed, is not expected to change anytime soon. The announcement also hinted at upcoming projects tied to the 15th anniversary, stating, “We have some surprises planned for 2025 to celebrate this milestone, so stay tuned.”
One confirmed highlight of the celebrations is a brand-new illustration by Mari Shimazaki, the original character designer, paying tribute to 15 years of Bayonetta. Speculation among fans also points to potential new content or even a remastered collection of the Bayonetta trilogy for the successor to the Nintendo Switch—a long-standing request in the gaming community.
A Key Pillar in PlatinumGames’ Creative Legacy
PlatinumGames reiterated its commitment to embracing new challenges and creating experiences that excite and surprise its players. While specific details about the franchise’s future remain under wraps, the studio assured fans that Bayonetta would remain a central figure in its creative journey.
