Changes in Star Citizen Developer Management?

Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) has made a major cut to the management team in order to at least help the Star Citizen and Squadron 42 teams meet their deadlines.

Citing inside sources, Insider-Gaming reported that several senior executives have been let go from CIG, and many others have been reassigned to other positions within the company. The changes are said to have started now, in early January, and CIG boss Chris Roberts informed those affected of the changes in an internal circular after his management letter was published recently. By the end of November, CIG had already laid off a number of people (we may have written that quality control staff were laid off as a result of the restructuring). At least three senior managers were removed from CIG. The three had at least 25 years of experience between them. Their departure is expected to be officially announced soon.

“In order to achieve this laser focus [on the release of Squadron 42 and Star Citizen 1.0], it is more important than ever to ensure that we have high performing and efficient teams across the company. To accomplish this, I have had to make changes to the structure of our teams from the top down to ensure we have the right people in the right roles, working as much in person as possible during our most critical year yet,” Roberts wrote.

Some crew members concluded that the task was more about cutting costs than meeting deadlines. Sandi Gardiner, Chris Roberts’ wife, is rumored to be returning to the company in a larger role. She left in May 2019, but has retained her seat on the CIG board. According to web.archive, Carl Jones, who was CIG’s chief strategy officer and spent more than 10 years at the company, was removed from the company section of the website around December 21, but the change has not yet been made on LinkedIn. He may be one of the people fired.

All of this is not official yet, but we can say that it really is time for Star Citizen to be released…
