Microsoft’s Next-Gen Xbox: Aiming for Launch Success

It seems that the Redmond-based company is trying to take the approach of one of its previous consoles with the platform that will arrive in stores after the Xbox Series duo.

An insider, Ghost of Hope, has written several tweets about what we can expect from the next generation Xbox. He also gave a name and a possible release year: “I’m hearing that the next Xbox console is still coming in 2026 and will be called Xbox Prime. It’s still unclear if this is a codename or the actual name. I’ve heard that Infinity Ward’s next Call of Duty is still being considered as a day one release for it. I know people don’t believe it, but the next Xbox console being in 2026 is pretty much an open secret within the industry. Seems early, but I think it makes sense with where Xbox is going.

The name sounds corny but it fits if there’s a big push for day one games on the Xbox Game Pass right away and they get a jump on the PlayStation 6. It’s a big risk, but a big reward if it pays off. I asked Jez Corden [Windows Central] for confirmation on this a few weeks ago and he didn’t have the sources to confirm or deny it,” wrote Ghost of Hope.

The name Xbox Prime does seem a bit hackneyed, bringing to mind the name given to the leader of the Autobots on the “good side” of Transformers (Optimus Prime). Microsoft admitted last year that the new Xbox is meant to be the biggest technological leap forward ever. The name is fitting. And the leap forward may be history repeating itself. After all, the Xbox 360 was launched in the fall of 2005, a year before the PlayStation 3. This could happen now, so Sony’s new console could be a year late again.

But we must emphasize that this is not official!
