TECH NEWS – On January 9, 2007, Apple’s iconic leader unveiled the iPhone, which revolutionized the technology industry and changed the way we thought about mobile phones…
Apple has come a long way since then. The first iPhone used Samsung’s S3C6400 chip and the design was very different (for example, it had a smaller screen). Apple CEO Steve Jobs described the iPhone as three devices in one at the launch, embedded below. First, it was a touchscreen iPhone; second, it was a cell phone; and third, it was an Internet communications device (which was also a breakthrough). Jobs said that Apple had reinvented the phone, and now, 18 years later, we have to say that he wasn’t wrong…
The phone was part aluminum, part plastic, with a 3.5″ (8.89 cm) display and built-in keyboard functionality, because although it was common for phones to have a mini-keyboard, Apple’s phone didn’t! It also had a 2-megapixel camera (where were the 50 or 108-megapixel sensors back then?) and a new operating system, the iPhone OS. The Cupertino company introduced something completely different from the design of the iPhone, which became the basis for the success of the rest of its products.
It’s also 18 years since the company announced Apple TV, which was called iTV at an earlier event in 2006. The goal was to bring iTunes to the big screen. In 2008, the Apple App Store arrived for the iPhone, and in 2019, online streaming, Apple TV+, also made an appearance. This is Apple’s competition to Amazon Prime, HBO Max or Netflix. Not all of Apple’s devices have been successful, as the Vision Pro AR headset has not really become a mainstream product (mainly because of the price, as it costs at least $3500 for a product that is no longer in production…).
The iPhone was a visionary product, there’s no denying that…
