The creators of Lords of the Fallen have learned from their mistakes and promise a “more Westernized” narrative for the sequel. Additionally, the game will enhance player-favorite features and incorporate community-requested improvements.
Lords of the Fallen was one of 2023’s standout action RPGs, celebrated for its dark atmosphere, compelling story, and challenging combat mechanics. Despite stumbling at launch, Hexworks’ soulslike has redeemed itself, demonstrating remarkable level design, deep combat systems, and the ability to captivate fans of FromSoftware titles.
Those following the game’s development know that Lords of the Fallen 2 is well underway, with a potential release slated for 2026. While the launch may still be some time off, hints have already emerged about this dark fantasy soulslike’s direction. Ryan Hill, CI Games’ marketing director, shared during a Q&A with investors that the development team is prioritizing gameplay and narrative enhancements to elevate the sequel’s overall experience.
A “Westernized” Storytelling Approach
Hexworks aims to craft a “more Westernized” narrative for Lords of the Fallen 2, alongside implementing player feedback from the original game. “Project 3 (code name) will address all the main feedback from Lords of the Fallen (2023) while doubling down on the features players enjoyed most,” Hill explained (via MP1ST). He also emphasized a quality-over-quantity approach for the sequel.
“The game will focus on quality over quantity, appealing to a broader audience by offering a more welcoming visual style and a more Westernized narrative,” Hill added. This statement has piqued the community’s curiosity, and while specific details remain scarce, it’s likely that the story structure will become more accessible, the characters more emotionally engaging, and the themes more relatable to a wider audience. The sequel could also lean towards a more cinematic presentation.
