Something else has popped up on Gabe Newell’s digital platform besides Deadlock, but what is it?
Speculation about Half-Life 3 has been rife for the past three or four months. For example, we recently wrote about what Mike Shapiro, the voice of G-Man, posted on Twitter. And before that, there was evidence that Valve was working on Project White Sands, which appeared on an actor’s website. White Sands refers to an area in New Mexico where Black Mesa was supposedly located. On Reddit, Relevant_Basis5444 noticed that Valve’s Steam page listed two projects as upcoming releases.
I could be onto nothing here but is this new?

One of them is self-explanatory, as it’s Deadlock, which was kept under wraps for a long time last year, but was finally confirmed. But there’s another project in the pipeline besides the third-person MOBA (played by thousands, but not yet released), and we don’t see it. Steam developers can hide games depending on your filter settings, but this mysterious thing remains invisible even if you disable all filters in Valve’s interface.
It’s no wonder fans are all guessing Half-Life 3, but it could literally be anything. It could be a big bug! Others are betting on a project from a studio that Valve acquired. Campo Santo (they previously developed Firewatch) is working on Valley of the Gods, but they have a separate Steam page, so it’s not so sure. According to another user, Accurate_Till 7811, you can see on archive.org that Valve only listed the gift cards in December, even though they’ve been available on Steam for years. And then Valve only listed them there, not on Deadlock.

The logical explanation is that the second project could be the older, outdated gift card listing, and Valve hid it to make Deadlock more public. Whatever it is, HLX (it could be Half-Life 3) remains a mystery if it’s really in the works…
