Ubisoft games, which were previously plagued by compatibility issues with the Windows 11 24H2 update, appear to have received much-needed fixes. The update had caused significant disruptions, including crashes and performance problems in major titles like Assassin’s Creed, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
Initially, the Windows 11 24H2 update rollout was paused for systems running these games due to player complaints about gameplay interruptions. Microsoft has now confirmed that Ubisoft has implemented several hotfixes to address these issues, ensuring smoother gameplay experiences for affected users.
According to Microsoft, the issues in Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora have been mitigated thanks to temporary hotfixes, although some performance challenges might still persist. Similarly, Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, Origins, and Valhalla have received updates that resolve compatibility problems, enabling players to enjoy these games without disruptions caused by the Windows update.
Microsoft has also lifted the safeguard hold (ID 54437462) that was preventing the update from being applied to systems with these games. As of January 16, 2025, the restriction is no longer in place, allowing the 24H2 update to proceed on compatible devices.
The rollout of Windows 11 24H2 has now intensified, with the update being automatically downloaded and installed on Home and Pro editions for eligible devices. Enterprise users are not yet included in this stage, and the rollout remains phased, meaning it could take some time before it reaches all systems.
Despite the fixes, some users might still encounter issues as the update is deployed. Members of the PC Gamer hardware team have reported various problems since installing the update, including stuttering in games, erratic mouse behavior, and stacked notifications. These lingering issues highlight the complexity of such large-scale updates.
Windows updates often come with their share of problems, given the operating system’s growing complexity and expansive feature set. While many of the more critical issues have been addressed, this update seems to have caused more disruptions than usual.
With any luck, Microsoft and developers like Ubisoft will continue to address these challenges promptly, ensuring a more stable experience for gamers moving forward.
