Just a few days remain until the release of Eternal Strands, but you can already try the game for free via its demo. This upcoming title combines the best elements of Monster Hunter and Zelda, promising an incredible experience. If you can’t wait for its debut on Game Pass, the Steam demo offers the perfect opportunity to step into its world right now.
The start of the year is packed with exciting releases. Alongside the highly anticipated Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Eternal Strands is just days away from hitting the market. Dubbed the “lost child” of Shadow of the Colossus and Monster Hunter, this project has captured attention under the direction of Mike Laidlaw, the creator behind the first three Dragon Age titles. The best part? While the game officially lands on Game Pass later this month, you can dive into its world today via the free demo on Steam.
To give players a head start, the developers have made a free demo of Eternal Strands available on Steam, allowing progress to be saved. The demo includes the prologue and the entirety of “Part 1,” offering approximately three hours of gameplay. Players can also experiment with the three main weapon types (sword and shield, bow and arrows, and a two-handed weapon), explore magic spells, and try out the item crafting system.
What is Eternal Strands?
As mentioned, while Eternal Strands may not yet be a household name, its director certainly is. Mike Laidlaw, who departed BioWare in 2017 after the release of Inquisition, has embarked on a fantasy project inspired by Monster Hunter with a touch of The Legend of Zelda. The game immerses players in a world where they hunt massive creatures using an advanced, physics-based combat system reminiscent of Breath of the Wild.
Moreover, players can utilize heat and cold as strategic tools, such as launching enemies with flaming logs via telekinesis or knocking down nearby trees for cover. This mechanic adds an extra layer of strategy to battles against colossal beasts, which can be climbed and attacked from different angles, similar to Shadow of the Colossus.
With these unique features and a captivating world, Laidlaw’s vision will officially come to life on January 28 for PC and consoles. The game will also be available on Game Pass the same day. However, it’s worth noting that progress from the Steam demo will not transfer to Microsoft’s platform.
