Marvel Snap Devs Seek New Publisher Following Temporary Ban!

Not only were TikTok and CapCut suddenly unavailable in the US over the weekend, but so was Marvel Snap… but how is that possible?

The publisher of Marvel Snap is Nuverse, a subsidiary of ByteDance, so the Chinese involvement has temporarily put them out of business. Marvel Snap is a collectible card game, obviously filled with Marvel superheroes. However, after the (currently temporary) restoration of TikTok, it had to wait 12 hours before it was available in the US. However, it is this very game that we are less likely to believe is a national security risk…

Marvel Snap is definitely available again on PC, but it’s still a question mark for the iOS/Android pair. In any case, this is good news for Second Dinner (a Californian studio), but certainly not for Nuverse. Because of the Chinese connection, this company is also in trouble because of the ticking bomb (tick-tock…) regarding TikTok. Second Dinner has said on Twitter that because of the temporary ban (which shouldn’t have affected the game) they are looking for another publisher instead, because they don’t want their game to be permanently unavailable in the US if TikTok is banned again…

“Marvel Snap is back online in the U.S. But to make sure this NEVER happens again, we’re working to bring more services in-house and partner with a new publisher. This is the beginning of a new era for Marvel Snap. We know this probably leaves you with more questions than answers. We appreciate your patience, but in the meantime, enjoy playing Marvel Snap. We’ll continue to update with more information as soon as possible,” Second Dinner wrote.

TikTok’s situation could be resolved by selling a 50% stake to a private US company (or even the US government?), but this is not yet clear…
