NINTENDO NEWS – Newegg has hinted at something about the Japanese company’s unveiled but as-yet-unreleased platform that has revealed the Big N’s plans.
Newegg offers electronics, video game accessories and games. You can also buy a Nintendo eShop gift card here, and the description of this product has been updated. They also mentioned games that Nintendo hasn’t announced yet: a new 3D Mario, a new Mario Kart, and a remake/remaster of The Legend of Zelda also appeared in the product description!
The new Mario Kart (we currently call it Mario Kart 9 for lack of a better name) was already hinted at by Nintendo in the announcement video. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond was mentioned as well as Pokémon Legends: Z-A. A new Metroid Prime installment was announced at E3 2017, but after development had to be restarted, it’s been more than seven years without a game release. The Japanese company is expected to release a new Samus story this year. Pokémon Legends: Z-A will also be released in 2025. It remains to be seen if these two titles will be released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2, or if they will also be cross-gen titles for the original Switch. It’s not out of the question that the Switch will be left out: the big N rarely develops cross-gen titles. The most recent example was The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, as one of the Switch’s opening titles also made its way to the Wii U.
It’s possible that what Newegg is suggesting is just speculation based on Nintendo’s publishing habits and fans’ dreams. Fans of the big N have long wanted certain Zelda remakes (Twilight Princess and Wind Waker come to mind), but ports could also be coming (A Link to the Past, Phantom Hourglass), though we’re less hopeful about the latter.
The Nintendo Switch 2 will hit stores sometime this year. Fun fact: it’s been rewritten in the meantime (they took out the Mario Kart/Zelda pairing, and instead it’s Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition).
