Marvel Rivals and Path of Exile 2: Are They Still Popular?

According to Newzoo’s December report, NetEase and Grinding Gear’s games have seen steady interest in their games, and spending hasn’t slowed down.

December saw a lot of games that have been around for a while make the top list, and discounts played a big part in that. However, Marvel Rivals and Path of Exile 2 remain at the top. They were joined by Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Marvel Rivals is free-to-play, which allows it to reach a larger audience, and has moved up to third place, beating out many other live service titles. Overwatch 2 slipped down the list, dropping from 9th to 12th place.

Indy’s strong performance is no surprise. It’s been on the Xbox Game Pass offering since its release, so instead of buying it, subscribers could get access to Indiana Jones and the Great Circle cheaper by subscribing. In terms of player engagement, it wasn’t very strong, coming in at number 17 on this list, but considering that MachineGames’ title won’t be available on the PlayStation 5 until the spring, that’s not a bad result by comparison. In terms of money made, Grand Theft Auto V jumped from 16th to 8th place in the final month of 2024 thanks to the Agents of Sabotage DLC.

Hogwarts Legacy, Baldur’s Gate 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 all benefited from strong sales, with all three making it into the top twenty. Gran Turismo 7, however, was a big surprise, climbing only 25 places (39th -> 14th) thanks to the franchise’s 25th anniversary. EA Sports College Football 25 continued to perform well, with the US football title moving up five places to 10th place thanks to a 50% discount.

We’re curious to see what changes will happen in January, but we’re sure to hear about them soon.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
