DOOM: The Dark Ages: Is Doom Slayer Coming to Nintendo Switch 2?

Although id Software’s game (which could be the harbinger of another general price hike…) has not yet been announced for Nintendo, let’s not rule out the possibility.

Let’s start with this price hike. If you look at the Steam page for DOOM: The Dark Ages, you won’t see that Microsoft isn’t charging $60. It’s not $70 either. They’re asking €80 for the game (which will come with Denuvo at launch) in the base edition, and we’ve already heard that many people are considering another price hike, so the €70 standard may be a thing of the past. The Premium Edition comes with an even higher price tag, going for €110 on Valve’s digital platform.

On Twitter, eXtas1s, a trusted insider, wrote that id Software’s next first-person shooter (which will support DLSS 4 multi-frame generation and path tracing on PC) will also be coming to Nintendo Switch 2. This is not officially confirmed yet, as Nintendo has not yet approved the port (they have for the regular Switch), and so there has been no announcement. The 2016 reboot of DOOM also made it to the Switch, and Panic Button put together a fair port, so it’s no wonder they were also responsible for the DOOM Eternal port.

DOOM: The Dark Ages will not have multiplayer, although the first DOOM was perhaps the one that made multiplayer mainstream. On Eurogamer we read what Marty Stratton, the executive producer, had to say. The reason there will be no multiplayer is because the campaign will be so rich. It will be the deepest story in the series to date, and the developers have focused all their resources on that. There will be companions, but they will be NPCs, not other players.

According to Hugo Martin, the game’s director, the focus on the solo experience has helped the story reach new heights. We can ride a dragon and control a giant mech, and these were planned for the previous two episodes, but because part of the focus was on multiplayer, they have not been implemented yet. PCs will need at least an eight-core processor, 16 GB of RAM, and a graphics card that supports ray tracing.

DOOM: The Dark Ages will be released on May 15th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC.
