What’s the Buzz About a Halo: Combat Evolved Remake? [VIDEO]

While Halo Studios (formerly 343 Industries) has yet to confirm that it is planning a remake of the first Master Chief story, perhaps it’s no coincidence that rumors are circulating that one of the opening titles for the Xbox will be reimagined…

If Halo Studios is indeed going back to the beginning, this could be a great “debut”. The studio has previously confirmed (and we wrote) that they have several projects in the works, and that they’re no longer using the Slipspace engine used in Halo Infinite, but Unreal Engine 5. During the announcement, the studio used some Halo: Combat Evolved iconography, but no remake has been confirmed yet.

In the video embedded below, Rebs Gaming claims that pre-production work on a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved began last January, a year ago. The remake is now in full development, according to the leaker, and as they move forward in the development cycle, they will be hiring new staff. Halo Studios has gone on several “hiring sprees” since then, so this could be something.

Rebs Gaming then talked about another project, codenamed Ekur. It’s not being worked on by Halo Studios, but by Certain Affinity, and we’ve reported several times that the team is developing a game related to the franchise. Ekur has been in development since 2022, according to the insider, and dedicated servers for testing have been running since June. He says it will be the next Halo game to be released, not the first Halo remake.

What can we expect from Halo this year? Not much, so it would be a bit surprising if something comes out this year. Maybe an announcement around June (that’s when E3 is usually held, but that’s a thing of the past… but publishers and developers always time it around that part of the year). Maybe Microsoft and Halo Studios (or maybe Certain Affinity) will reveal something then.

But it’s all unofficial!
